Garden Lounge Bar in Vis, Croatia

Fort George Garden Lounge Bar is an open-air bar set within the pine garden of a restored historic fortress above the town of Vis, overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Whether you’re arriving for a drink before dinner, staying on after the meal, or simply spending an evening in the garden with sea views and cocktails, the Garden Lounge Bar offers a relaxed setting with no fixed schedule and no time pressure.

Sofa seating in the Garden Lounge is available to book in advance from 17:30 via the Book Now page. Walk-ins are welcome throughout the day depending on availability.

The Garden Lounge Bar Experience

The Garden Lounge Bar is set within the fort’s pine garden, surrounded by old stone walls and open views across the Adriatic. Seating includes outdoor sofas, lounge chairs, and tables positioned to face the sea, with natural shade from the pine trees during the day and a sea breeze throughout the evening.

During the day the atmosphere is quieter, well suited for coffee, smoothies, and drinks in the shade. As the afternoon moves toward evening, the garden fills gradually, and the atmosphere shifts into a more social setting with soft background music, cocktails, and the changing light over the sea.

The Garden Lounge Bar is distinct from the Rooftop Sunset Bar, which operates as a separate ticketed experience during sunset hours only. The Garden Lounge is open throughout the day and into the late evening, making it a natural place for guests to settle in before or after dinner, or simply spend the evening at their own pace.

What Makes the Garden Lounge Bar Different

No Fixed Sunset Schedule

Unlike the Rooftop Sunset Bar, the Garden Lounge Bar has no fixed arrival window and no ticket requirement. Guests can arrive at any point during the day or evening and stay for as long as they like.

Historic Setting and Sea Views

The lounge sits within the original fortress garden, with stone walls, pine trees, and unobstructed views across the Adriatic coastline. The combination of the historic structure and open Mediterranean garden creates an atmosphere that is difficult to find elsewhere on Vis Island.

Cocktails, Wines and Drinks Selection

The Garden Lounge Bar menu includes signature cocktails, classic cocktails, Croatian and international wines, champagne and prosecco, premium spirits, aperitifs, beer, and a full selection of non-alcoholic options.

The bar is especially popular for spritzes, gin-based cocktails, and pre-dinner aperitifs. Croatian wines from Dalmatia and the surrounding islands are available alongside international labels, making the lounge a good option for guests who want to explore local wine varieties in a relaxed setting.

The drinks selection changes slightly throughout the season. Guests are encouraged to speak with the bar team on arrival for current recommendations.

Food in the Garden Lounge

From 18:00, a selection of sharing plates and lighter dishes is available directly in the lounge area. The lounge food menu includes Dalmatian charcuterie, seafood starters, selection of Italian arancini, desserts, and snacks designed for relaxed dining alongside drinks rather than a full dinner service.

For guests looking for a full seated dinner, the Fort George restaurant is located within the same venue and operates separately from 18:00.

When to Visit the Garden Lounge Bar

The Garden Lounge Bar is open throughout the day, making it suitable for different types of visits depending on what you’re looking for.

Mornings and early afternoons are quieter and well suited for coffee, smoothies, or drinks in the shade of the pine trees. Late afternoons and early evenings are ideal for aperitifs and sunset views as the light changes over the Adriatic. Later in the evening, the lounge continues to operate alongside the restaurant, making it a natural place to extend the evening after dinner or arrive for drinks on its own.

Pairing Drinks with Dinner at Fort George

Many guests combine the Garden Lounge Bar with a dinner reservation at the Fort George restaurant. A natural flow is to arrive in the lounge for aperitifs or a cocktail before moving into dinner, then returning to the garden for wine or desserts afterwards.

The restaurant and lounge bar are located within the same venue, so moving between the two is straightforward. Restaurant reservations and lounge sofa bookings are made separately via the Book Now page.
